About
African Roots Transformation (ART)

Our vision and mission, our history, our values and our donors

We are a grassroots-driven, African-born movement advancing agroecology for climate justice, fostering food sovereignty, and promoting social justice and equality. We work with communities, not for them; empowering them to innovate, design, own, and sustain solutions.

We partner with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), civil society groups, and local leaders, ensuring our programs are culturally relevant, cost-effective, and deeply rooted in the people they serve.

Vision

To lead the transformation of African communities into resilient, self-sufficient societies through the promotion of agroecology, food sovereignty, and social justice, ensuring climate justice and equitable access to resources for all.

Mission

To nurture communities and transform lives across Africa by advancing agroecology for climate justice, fostering food sovereignty, and promoting social justice and equality. Through education, advocacy, and sustainable practices, we strive to create a just and resilient future for all.

Our Core Values

At African Roots Transformation (ART), our work is grounded in values that guide every decision, partnership, and project we undertake. These values are not just ideals — they are commitments we live by, ensuring that our investments translate into sustainable, community-owned transformation.

Integrity

We practice radical transparency in resource management, ensuring every shilling is accounted for and used for its intended purpose.

Accountability

We hold ourselves responsible to communities, partners, and donors through measurable results and honest reporting.

Inclusion

We amplify the voices of women, youth, and marginalized groups so they lead in shaping their future.

Collaboration

We partner with CBOs, civil society, and local leaders to achieve lasting collective impact.

Innovation

We design creative, locally-driven solutions that address complex community challenges.

Sustainability

We embed agroecology, climate resilience, and long-term ownership into every initiative.

Dignity

We honor cultural identity and traditional knowledge as vital resources for progress.

Environmental Stewardship

We protect and restore ecosystems, ensuring a healthy planet for generations to come.

These values are the foundation of our credibility, the compass for our decisions, and the reason why communities trust us — and why donors and partners can, too.
