Empowering Communities. Restoring Ecosystems. Building Resilience.

African Roots Transformation (ART) believes that the people living closest to environmental, social, and economic challenges are also best positioned and equipped to shape sustainable solutions.

Our role is not to replace local leadership, but to strengthen it through resources, collaboration, practical support, advocacy, and long-term partnership.

Our Vision

To contribute to resilient, self-sufficient, and just African communities through agroecology, food sovereignty, climate justice, and equitable access to resources and opportunities.

Our Mission

To advance agroecology, strengthening food systems, promoting social justice, and supporting sustainable livelihoods through education, advocacy, and locally led action.

Our Motto

Nurturing Communities. Transforming Lives. Sustaining Futures.

Born From The Roots

African Roots Transformation (ART) was established in Kenya in response to the growing challenges facing farming communities across Africa; climate change, soil degradation, shrinking land access, rising agricultural costs, and increasing food insecurity.

Through grassroots engagement and lived experience, we witnessed how smallholder farmers, especially women and young people, continue to carry the burden of food production while remaining excluded from resources, decision-making, and long-term opportunities. We also saw indigenous knowledge and local food systems steadily disappearing despite their importance in building resilience and sustainability.

ART was created to support community-led solutions rooted in agroecology, food sovereignty, social justice, and practical local action. Today, we work alongside communities to strengthen resilience, restore ecosystems, promote equity, and help create sustainable futures grounded in dignity and local ownership.

True climate resilience and food sovereignty can only be built by the communities that know the land best.
